Why I Give

“Camp Chestnut Ridge – I love that place!”

Why I GiveHey my name’s Jemima, I’m from Australia and I’ve been a counselor at camp three times now. I wouldn’t, for a second, change any of the time that I’ve had at camp. Why do I love it so much? Well there are so many reasons but I hope this little letter can help paint the picture. One of the greatest things about camp is the friendships that are formed between the counselors. We work, eat, live and most importantly have fun together every day. I have many close friends from working at camp over the years – from not just the USA but all over the world. They’ve become like brothers and sisters to me and it’s amazing to have family in so many different countries.

Friendships are great to have but it’s even better when we have other people to share our experiences with. At camp these other people come in the form of excited and energetic children that come through the camp gates week after week. By being a strong family unit as a staff we can welcome the kids with open arms and open hearts. Everyday I love seeing the counselors interact with the kids – whether it’s in the pool, climbing high ropes or dancing and singing like crazy. Camp is always filled with love and laughter and everyone has a smile on their face.

Even though all these things are amazing about camp, I think the best bit is that everyone is treated as an individual and a loved child of God. As Christians we are called to be like Jesus and care for everyone as an equal. We should give every child the opportunity they deserve to experience life to the fullest. It is this reason that prompted me to think hard about the Pass-It-On campaign. Some children only need $50 to come to camp (while others need a little more) and I wouldn’t want them to miss out on the amazing experience that has given me so much. I therefore donated my entire pay check of last summer to the campaign so as many kids as possible could come to the camp that I love. In the realm of things this was such an easy decision as we are also called to honour God with everything that we have, which includes our finances. Can I encourage you to think about the blessed situation you are in and how you can honour God. Every donation will help and I want this summer be the best summer of many kid’s life! Please consider making a donation to the Pass It On campaign today.
